Piezoelectric system can be constructed for virtually any application for which any other type of electromechanical transducer can be used. For any particular application, however, limiting factors include the size, weight, and cost of the piezoelectric system. Piezoceramic ceramic devices fit into four general categories: piezo generators, sensors, piezo actuators, and transducers. Characteristics of each piezoelectric material are briefly summarized here.

Piezoceramic components, such as plates, disks or rings, convert mechanical signals, such as force, pressure, strain or acceleration, into electrical voltage, or, vice versa, an electrical voltage into mechanical motion or oscillations. The typical resonant frequencies are between 200 kHz and 10 MHz. The shapes and dimensions of the piezo components can be selected within the limits determined by the tools, although the dimensions depend on each other. The minimum dimensions are determined by physical and technological limits. The thickness or wall thickness, for example, is limited by the mechanical strength of the ceramic during machining. In the polarization direction, the dimension is at most 30 mm.

 

Commonly used electronic ceramics are barium titanate series, lead zirconate titanate binary system, and the third common compound of ABO3 type added to the binary system.
If the ternary system continues to be added, the fourth or more compounds. In this case, quaternary and multi-element electronic ceramics are formed. They do not contain unqualified components such as toxic lead and are beneficial to the environmental protection industry. Therefore, the dielectric properties formed by electronic ceramics are more advocated, reflecting the degree of response of ceramic materials to electromagnetic fields formed inside and outside. Normally, the dielectric constant ε0 is used to indicate that when the external electromagnetic field is not large, the response of the dielectric to the electric field has a usable linearity.
